Important information regarding measles
Dear 91ºÚÁÏÍø Community,
The Province of Manitoba has shared an important update regarding the recent increase in measles cases across Canada, including a recent school exposure in Manitoba. This is part of the largest measles outbreak in Canada since the disease was declared eliminated in 1998.
Measles is a highly contagious disease that can spread before symptoms appear. Early symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes, followed by a red blotchy rash. The illness can lead to serious complications, especially for young children, pregnant individuals, and those with weakened immune systems.
To help protect yourself, your family, and your school community, vaccination is key — two doses of the measles vaccine are nearly 100 per cent effective. Manitobans born in or after 1985 are eligible for free vaccination.
Please take the time to read the full letter for further information on the measles disease and how to protect yourself and the community around you.
