Strategic Action 1.5: Indigenous Curriculum Focus

Reframe the Grade 11 English Language Arts curriculum to focus on Indigenous literature and perspectives, while ensuring the Grade 11 History curriculum thoroughly explores Indigenous histories and perspectives.

A Renewed Relationship

Inspired by the Circle of Courage, we are committed to a renewed relationship with Indigenous learners and families. We are embedding Indigenous worldviews, practices, and culture into our learning and activities to ensure a holistic educational journey.

Community Engagement

Through our Indigenous Education Community Council and Indigenous Parent Program, we build strong partnerships with students, staff, and families. These programs provide safe, supportive spaces for guidance, cultural activities, and shared learning.

Innovative Learning

We are proud to offer unique programs like the Manito Ahbee Aki Minecraft world, Powwow Clubs, and the Indigenous Youth Leadership Program. These initiatives provide engaging, authentic opportunities for students to connect with Indigenous culture and perspectives.

Goals for 2025 & 2027

  • By 2025: We will have ensured that the Grade 11 History curriculum thoroughly explores Indigenous histories and perspectives and is framed with Indigenous pedagogies at the centre. This will include incorporating voices, stories, and experiences that reflect the diversity and depth of Indigenous communities, both historically and in contemporary contexts.
  • By 2027: We will have reframed the Grade 11 English Language Arts curriculum to focus on Indigenous literature and perspectives. This will involve elevating Indigenous authors and storytelling traditions while fostering critical thinking about the relationships between language, culture, and identity.
